Nicola Sayers is a writer and academic whose work explores nostalgia, memory, hope, the city and the cinematic.

Nicola Sayers is a writer of nonfiction and fiction. Her work has appeared in Public Books, 3quarksdaily.com (where she was a regular columnist), Porridge Magazine, Public Seminar and other publications. Her academic book, The Promise of Nostalgia: Reminiscence, Longing and Hope in Contemporary American Literature and Culture, was published with Routledge in 2020. She teaches Creative Non-Fiction at Syracuse University’s London campus, and is currently working on her first novel.

She received her PhD from the School of Advanced Study, University of London in 2017. She also has an M.A. in Psychology from New York University and a B.A. in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University. She is half-Swedish, half-English and lives in Oxford with her partner and two children. A part of her heart remains in Chicago, where they lived for a few very happy years.
